HarmonyOS NEXT is running in the public beta phase and might go stable later this month. A new leak says that Huawei could officially unveil its all-new self-developed operating system in October. Probably, we may get an official statement tomorrow.

Tipster UncleKanshan has recently received a notification regarding the new software. The alert reads that Huawei might launch the HarmonyOS NEXT stable version later this month. However, the exact release date is still unconfirmed.

Huawei launched the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program on October 8. Based on the past revelations, the tipster said that the company could showcase the official version tomorrow (October 15). The news ultimately raised users’ excitement.

The latest information seems accurate. Several early inputs claimed that HarmonyOS NEXT will likely go official in October this year. One of the company’s executives even said that the stable version of the new software will meet consumers in Q4 2024.

In that case, the leaked timeline could be correct to some extent. But we have to wait for an official confirmation before jumping to any conclusions on this matter.

HarmonyOS NEXT stable this month

Apart from the software info, the leak mentions that Huawei will release its flagship products in mid-November. The date is marked XX (double digit), which hints the Mate 70 or Mate X6 launch will take place in second/third week of next month.

Some netizens asked if the company will unveil any new small-sized tablets this year. In response, the tipster said that details are currently unknown. Judging from the previous 3C listings and revelations, Huawei may launch more tablets this year.

HarmonyOS NEXT

HarmonyOS NEXT has been distributed in two parts. The first batch of devices is fetching the public beta upgrade (Check the public beta update changelog HERE). Meanwhile, the second batch models are ready for the closed beta version.

The speed in the HarmonyOS NEXT beta rollouts among eligible devices hints that Huawei could unveil the new software’s stable version this month.

Mate 70 series will come with the pre-installed HarmonyOS NEXT. Other devices like the Mate 60 series, Mate X5, and MatePad Pro 13.2 will likely be the first to get the official version. You can check the HarmonyOS NEXT Upgrade Plan HERE.

Huawei has shared the EMUI and HarmonyOS October 2024 security patch details and it’s time to check which devices will get the latest enhancements. Apart from patch details rollout, the company has also listed the devices on its official page.

Every month, the company updates its security patch details. Alongside, it adds or removes devices from the rollout list based on their compatibility. The current month is no exception to this theory and Huawei has shared the eligible models list.

The details describe two sections: monthly and quarterly. Huawei devices in the former section get the benefits of regular security rollouts while those in the quarterly part fetch new security improvements once in three months.

Note that Huawei has not yet started the October 2024 update distribution. Also, the company rolls these security firmware in batches. Hence, it takes some days to cover all the eligible units in a particular region. You can try out a manual installation.

To download the update manually, go to Settings > System & Updates > Software Updates. Now click on CHECK FOR UPDATES and let the device search for new versions. To the available one, hit the Download and Install tab. You can check the compatible Huawei devices for the EMUI October 2024 update below.

News regarding Huawei reveals that four devices have recently passed the OpenHarmony 5.0 compatibility test. The list counts the first batch devices of the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta. More devices may soon join this compatibility list.

OpenHarmony is an open-source distributed operation system platform, launched by OpenAtom Foundation. It has a layered architecture as well as supports several types of devices like printers, speakers, wearables, and mini systems.

The company has recently released the OpenHarmony 5.0 version with a set of new ArkUI features and enhancements. The build also fixes certain issues found in the Web module, input method framework, and other significant segments.

As of now, some Huawei devices have passed the compatibility test for the OpenHarmony 5.0 operating system. The list of compatible models is as follows:

  • Mate 60
  • Mate 60 Pro
  • Mate X5
  • MatePad Pro 13.2

OpenHarmony compatibility test ensures that devices or industrial apps and products comply accurately with the technical requirements of the OpenHarmony software system. Simply put, it helps in the long-term run and stability aspects.

At the same time, these testing looks if the product can remain persistent with the business experiences and app interfaces or will fail in the middle.

Devices like Mate 60 and Mate X5 have qualified for the OpenHarmony 4.1 release version compatibility test in June this year. Now the company has added more models to this segment for an efficient and compatible experience.

This testing is also beneficial for the HarmonyOS NEXT-based experience. At the HDC 2024, the company announced that HarmonyOS NEXT is a full-scenario intelligent operating system as well as relies upon OpenHarmony.

Thus, compatibility with the OpenHarmony 5.0 version will help Huawei devices remain supportive and responsive to the HarmonyOS NEXT features and capabilities.

HarmonyOS NEXT beta update has unlocked a new ‘lost hidden album images’ issue for beta users. Some device owners reported that after installing the latest testing version, they lost all the hidden images from their Huawei handset.

The company kick-started the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program yesterday for first-batch devices. The list includes the Mate 60 series, Mate X5, and MatePad Pro 13.2 tablet. Alongside new features, the update also brought in a nasty bug.

Some beta users started losing their hidden album pictures after installing the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta on their devices. The problem is quite disturbing as “hidden images” reflect confidential pictures that users often hide from prying eyes.

Although Huawei has officially responded on this matter. The company said that the HarmonyOS NEXT hasn’t resulted in the loss of any images. Rather, it has moved all the pictures to the .hiddenALbum section and stored them safely.

The Chinese tech giant added that this is a normal behavior of the software. But it will be resolved by the end of this month with new beta updates. By that time, users can try some temporary solutions that can help them to some extent.

“…it is expected to resolve in the upcoming versions released by the end of October. Please refer to the actual release time for details. Please wait patiently for the system version update and upgrade it on time.”

HarmonyOS NEXT lost images issue

Temporary Solutions:

Users can go to the .hiddenAlbum album on the file manager. Now select all the images and tap on the “More” tab in the lower right corner. Click on Hide.

Doing so will let you access the lost images and re-hide them from the main album. Other than that, those who do not want to hide these pictures temporarily can wait for the next version. The new update will automatically shift images to hidden album.

HarmonyOS NEXT brings various features on board. But being a beta build, it also leads to certain irritating bugs that hinder user experiences to some extent. One such is the ‘lost hidden images’ issue in the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta.

Hence, it is better to take a backup of your device before proceeding with the beta update installation.

Huawei could introduce a new MatePad Pro 13.2 PaperMatte Edition in the upcoming weeks. As the term suggests, the new model will likely give a soothing and eye-strain-free visual experience to users. It may also have large storage options.

The Chinese tech giant seemingly has a bunch of tablet products to launch this year. After unveiling two flagship-like devices, the company may bring a new PaperMatte Edition to the Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 tablet later this month or in November.

As noted by tipster @FixedFocus, Huawei could add a PaperMatte model to the MatePad Pro 13.2. The OEM may launch this edition alongside Nova 13 series.

PaperMatte is an effective display solution that significantly reduces the reflection and sunlight interference. It offers better, brighter, and clearer visuals even under sunlight. The overall experience is more convenient than a regular tablet.

The respective display tech also provides paper-like smooth and sleek visuals. Users can easily read books or watch videos for hours with less eye strain.

Further details reveal that this edition will have large storage options. A few netizens sarcastically speculated that the memory version could be 24GB RAM and a 2-3TB option. But an accurate guess seems to be the 16GB + 1TB storage variant.

Huawei may launch this edition with only one storage option. Other specs like screen size, camera, and battery would be similar to the original model. The launch details are currently a secret but may be disclosed in the upcoming days.

MatePad Pro 13.2

The tablet has a dimension of 196.1 x 289.1 x 5.5mm and weighs 580gm. It equips a 13.2-inch Flexible OLED screen with a resolution of 2880 x 1920 pixels, 262 PPI, 94% screen-to-body ratio, 1000 nits peak brightness, 1.07 billion colors, and a P3 wide color gamut.

For the camera, the device sports a dual-cam setup on the rear side with a 13MP HD camera and an 8MP ultra-wide angle. The front side has a 16MP lens for video calling purposes. It packs a 10100mAh battery and supports 88W wired charging.

The device holds 6 speakers, 4 mics, and 5 sensors (ambient light, hall, gyro, compass, gravity). Other parameters are 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, NearLink tech, USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Type-C), and Huawei Sound.

Huawei Nova 13 series is the next major smartphone lineup waiting for the launch and before that, the key specs of the standard and Pro models have surfaced online. A new leak has shared the camera, charging, and other details of these devices.

UncleKanshan has revealed the main specs of the Huawei Nova 13/13 Pro ahead of their launch. The tipster shared the details in the name of Honor Magic 7 series for standard and Pro variants. Although netizens identified the hidden mystery.

Judging from the key specs, many people reported that the leak is related to the Nova 13 series. Now let’s take a detailed look at these suspected parameters.

Huawei Nova 13 Pro specs

Standard Huawei Nova 13

Inputs reveal that the device may come in four color options: Starry Black, Fallen Green, Feather White, and Feather Purple. The Purple shade may act as the star color this time (Color no. 13).

Nova 13 will likely support 12GB RAM paired with two storage variants 256GB and 512GB. It could adopt an optical fingerprint scanner for unlocking the device while a full glass back panel with probably a shiny and glorious finish.

Camera: The front part may equip a 60MP selfie sensor whereas, the rear side could show a dual-lens setup with a 50MP main shooter and an 8MP ultrawide sensor, just like the predecessor. The charging will also be the same – 100W SuperFast.

Huawei Nova 13 Pro

This time, the company may adopt a triple rear camera structure for the high-end Nova 13 models. It will likely consist of a 50MP RYYB main lens, an 8MP ultrawide-angle, and a 12MP periscope sensor. The front will be the same as the previous-gen model: a dual-cam setup with a 60MP selfie lens and an 8MP close-up shooter.

Speaking of the colors, it would be the same four options as the standard version. The rear side may hype a full glass back panel whereas, the front part could use an optical fingerprint scanner. It may run on 12GB RAM with three storage variants: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

Huawei will likely bring the 100W charging support for all the Nova 13 series models. How far the current specs match with the official parameters would be worth looking at.

Apart from Nova 13 series specs, the leak hints that Huawei could launch a new MatePad Pro 13.2 PaperMatte Edition with an OLED panel. More details will be clear in the coming days.

It’s October 8 and Huawei launches the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program for its eligible devices. The company has opened public testing for selected handset users. However, the current activity will soon be expanded to more devices.

HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program has brought an end to the long-running anticipation of consumers. Previous testing versions were limited to developers and early adopters. But now the company has extended the testing to public testers.

Up to this point, the company has pushed off several developer beta builds for experienced software testers. Now the new self-developed software is open to general device users to explore new features before the stable release.

The tech giant has launched the latest beta activity for the first batch of devices. The list includes Mate 60 series, Mate X5 foldable, and MatePad Pro 13.2 tablet.

Simply put, the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta version will be available to these device users right after they sign up in the current testing pool. They don’t have to wait for the rollout like the closed beta devices (Pura 70, Pocket 2, and more).

How to sign up?

Eligible device users can check the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta activity on the My Huawei app. Open the application and select the “Upgrade” or “Upgrade to Try” option. Wait for a few minutes and follow the on-screen prompts to register.

After completing the signup, users will immediately get the new public beta update with some interesting features and a set of new improvements. Users may also get a chance to test the new native HarmonyOS app versions and their changes.

Users can further share their feedback, and suggestions, or report issues using the My Huawei app > Community. It will eventually help in improving the software.

Points to remember

HarmonyOS NEXT public beta activity will push testing builds to devices. Being a new software, the installation may lead to the deletion of your data. Hence, it is better to take a backup beforehand to avoid any data loss.

Also, the company is still adapting some applications to HarmonyOS. It will detect and prompt the apps that are not available in the HarmonyOS NEXT AppGallery. However, if you face abnormal functioning with any app then don’t worry, as it is a normal software behavior.
