ASML is now rumored to raise the price of chip-making tools for TSMC. The price increment strategy will ultimately aid the chip equipment supplier in reaching its revenue goal by next year. But TSMC could make efforts to prevent this cost rise.

Ming-Chi Kuo noted that ASML is in rumors to increase the price of its chip-making tools for TSMC. But that won’t be the exact case. Perhaps, the Taiwanese semiconductor firm will likely bargain with ASML and suppress it for price reductions.

TSMC is one of the biggest customers of ASML. The latter used to sell large lithography machines to the former to print circuit patterns onto silicon wafers.

Wall Street stated a few points that hint at why ASML could raise the price of its chip equipment for TSMC. Firstly, ASML has planned to achieve €30 to €40 billion in revenue range by 2025. The firm is taking new steps to enhance its sales by next year.

Secondly, TSMC and other customers of the Dutch chip equipment supplier are looking forward to more advanced chipmaking processes by next year. This may ultimately increase the demand for ASML’s highest-end EUV tools pricing €350 million.

Lastly, ASML is seeing a major decline in semiconductor stocks for the time being. Customers like Intel and Samsung didn’t make much progress. But TSMC has recently reported blockbuster earnings with 54% profit. This could be a reason to hike chip equipment prices for the Taiwanese semiconductor firm.

TSMC is highly dependent on ASML for chipmaking tools. Thus, the Dutch firm could take advantage of this point to some extent by raising its price. However, the U.S. government may subsidize this dealing with better profits on both sides.

Note that neither ASML nor TSMC has confirmed this news so far. Hence, it is better to take this rumor with a grain of salt at present.

South Korea is planning strict measures to block its chipset secrets as well as business leaks worldwide. The government could soon impose “heavier than before” penalties on those who leak regional regulations and chip-related secrets to others.

According to Reuters, the finance minister of South Korea, Choi Sang-mok said that the country is readying strict measures and rules to block chipset and technology leaks in the global market. It is preparing a big-data system as a major safety.

The new “big data” system will lead to useful and stricter rules with tougher punishments for culprits. The penalties under this system are unknown but it will eventually ensure full security of the business secrets and chip tech in the country.

“We will prevent illegal leaks of advanced technologies to raise the global competitiveness of our companies and strengthen technology leadership.” – said Choi.

South Korean government is taking such strict measures following the previous leak cases in the country. Inputs reveal that over 97 attempts have been made in the past five years to leak business secrets and chipset details to other countries.

As noted by the National Intelligence Service, 40 of these leaks were regarding chip manufacturing and its relevant parts. The good news is that these leaks didn’t achieve success. Or else, it would have led to a loss of $16.85 billion to the country.

In September, a South Korean official blamed for stealing chipmaking details from Samsung.  Thus, a few strict measures on this matter are quite necessary.

Over the years, South Korea established around 12 national strategic tech firms that can support the country financially. These include rechargeable batteries, aerospace and artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and more.

These industries also aim to protect and respond actively to global competition and help resolve supply chain problems. It would be worth seeing what new penalties South Korea will take on the chipset and tech leak matter.

Huawei is shining in the Chinese market with a 50% increase in smart TV shipments for Q3 2024. According to a new report, the company performed the best in China’s TV market and achieved the award of highest sales in the third quarter of this year.

RUNTO Technology published its analysis on Chinese smart TV shipments for Q3 2024. The report described that China’s TV sector is seeing a major decline this time, compared to the last year same period. It has dropped by 6.6% in sales.

The market has sold 8.115 million branded TV sets in the third quarter of 2024, which isn’t a good reach. Combining the TV sales of all three quarters this year, the shipments decreased by 5% year-on-year (24.505 million units sold in three quarters).

Despite a decline, Huawei has been the best performer in Q3 2024 Chinese smart TV shipments. The company sold around 300000 units in the last quarter.

This is ultimately an increase of 50% YoY in the company’s smart TV sales. RUNTO analysts mentioned that Huawei offline stores have sold the most number of smart TVs as of September. The sales have contributed to substantial growth this year.

Apart from Huawei, the report ranks seven brands as the top TV vendors in China. These are Hisense, Xiaomi, TCL, Skyworth, Changhong, Konka, and Haier.

The combined sales share of all eight rankers reached 96.1%. Huawei is at the top while Xiaomi ranked second in this listing. TCL is showing in the third spot.

Foreign brands like Sony, Samsung, and Philips are also lagging in this race. They scored a combined market share of less than 5% and struggling to rise in the market.

Huawei has recently launched new smart TV models one after the other in the Chinese market. The latest one is the Smart TV V5 Max 110-inch which delivers a theatre-like feel to users. The device supports HarmonyOS 4.5 and various other features.

Honor is ready to unveil new top-end smartphones this year. Ahead of that, a new leak is here revealing the screen details of the Honor 300 series. The device may go official next year with some better upgrades over the previous generation models.

SmartPikachu recently noted that the next-gen digital series – Honor 300 might equip smaller screen sizes than its predecessors. The leak adds that these smartphones will launch next year, probably with a new design and surprising features.

The input doesn’t reveal the display panel size. Hence, the exact parameters of the screen are unclear. Although it will likely be less than the 6.7-inch (Honor 200).

A few netizens predicted that the Honor 300 series screen could be around 6.3 or 6.1-inch. Some said that the company could introduce the standard variant with a smaller screen while keeping the high-end variants confined to large display panels.

Small-screen devices may again become a trend soon. Due to less growth and changes in the smartphone market, many tech vendors ditch the small device idea.

One of the examples is the iPhone 13 mini. Apple stopped launching “Mini” models due to a decline in the respective phone’s sales. On the flip side, Samsung continued to impress its customers with the 6.1-inch standard Galaxy S series handsets.

Honor might be planning a new strategy with the smaller screen phones in the consumer market. The company hasn’t confirmed any details regarding the Honor 300 series. Hence, let’s take the current input with a grain of salt.

The Chinese OEM launched the Honor 200 series in May this year. It has a 6.7-inch OLED screen with 1200 x 2664 pixels resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, 4000 nits peak brightness, and 436PPI. The device has 5G and dual-SIM capability.

It runs on Android 14-based MagicOS 8.0 and equips the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset paired with Adreno 720 GPU. The phone features an optical fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, gyro, compass, and Circle to Search feature as well.

Honor 200 series sports a tri-cam setup consisting of a 50MP main lens, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 50MP telephoto shooter. The front part holds a 50MP selfie sensor for amazing portraits. The device packs a 5200mAh cell with 100W wired and 5W reverse wired charging support.

Samsung is seemingly adopting some incredible UI changes for One UI 7.0 including the widgets and icons. A few inputs have revealed that the firm is busy improving the user interface segments for its devices with the next One UI software upgrade.

X tipster @UniverseIce recently noticed the creativity level of One UI 7.0 in one of its early builds. He says that the software is still in development. But new testing builds hint at positive improvements regarding the User Interface and stability.

The tipster further reveals that One UI 7.0 will bring redesigned widgets and many icons. For instance, the Samsung Gallery app will get a new app icon again.

Not only applications but the upcoming software update may also change the in-content tool and feature icons of the Gallery app. Apart from the Samsung Gallery, users could discover more new innovative app icons with the One UI 7.0 beta.

Speaking of the widgets, the tipster mentioned that One UI 7 will likely bring some incomparably rich widgets. These might deliver smarter tools and capabilities over the rival operating systems. But the details aren’t clear for the time being.

A report by ETNews also claims that Samsung is working on the stability and completeness of the One UI 7.0 user interface. The company continues to perform new internal tests that can improve the new software’s UI to a greater extent.

Samsung is putting efforts to make its upcoming One UI upgrade the best for its device users. This is probably a reason why the company is taking time to roll out the first beta update. How far the tech giant will extend this wait would be worth seeing.

Samsung phone users have locked their eyes on the One UI 7.0 arrival and in the meantime, the leaks are constantly implying better changes with the new upgrade. One effective enhancement in One UI 7.0 could be an all-new camera interface.

The South Korean tech giant is not only focusing on making its UI segment incredible but also easier to navigate. Despite an attractive interface, users often get stuck with the usage and navigation part of the One UI software updates.

But it seems the company is fixing this problem with the One UI 7.0. This could also be a reason why Samsung is taking time to release its new One UI beta update for developers and users. So without any delays, let’s take a look at new changes.

One UI 7.0 Camera Interface

The company is ready to give a bold revamp to the camera segment with the One UI 7.0 upgrade. The recent One UI 7.0 early build leaks suggest that the tech maker will adopt a more simple and easy-to-use camera interface with the new OS.

Looking into the details, shooting models like Photos, Videos, Portraits, and other labels now appear at the bottom of the screen. It is the perfect spot to switch between camera modes and other shooting tools without spending much time.

One UI 7 camera interface

Camera controls are now far better than the previous builds. One UI 7.0 has a new single tab as the replacement for Night Shot mode. The exact function of this button at the bottom of the camera interface is unclear. Though we may get details soon.

Other controls like Settings, Flash, Timer, Aspect Ratio, and Motion Photo can be found in the lower middle of the screen. These simple but significant changes will offer a clutter-free camera interface to users.

These changes even seem effective for those who prefer using the device in the one-handed mode. Such users can also opt for certain options from the top right corner of the camera layout. These changes could differ in the stable version. Hence, let’s wait more on this segment till the official rollout.

Samsung broke many hearts after delaying the One UI 7.0 till next year but here’s a piece of good news – One UI 7.0 public beta is coming soon. The company recently confirmed this information through one of its official community moderators.

A recent discussion on Samsung community confirmed that One UI 7.0 public beta will launch soon. Some users asked if the new software beta will only be available to developers. The query points out users’ curiosity to test the latest One UI OS.

Responding to the thread, a moderator said that One UI 7 testing will soon enter the public phase. The company hasn’t confirmed the beta schedule yet. Once done, the new software beta will go to the public. Hence, wait patiently.

It looks like Samsung is giving some final touch-ups to its new One UI version. The Android 15-based One UI is expected to bring better upgrades, smoother animations, and effective features. Thus, the delay in this case seems good.

Further details reveal that users will be notified via the Samsung Members app about the beta progress. Therefore, we suggest keeping the app up-to-date with the latest version. Also, ensure sufficient storage space in your Samsung smartphone.

During the SDC 2024, the company confirmed that One UI 7.0 beta will be open for developers by the end of this year. Though the moderator’s words reflect that One UI 7 beta will also be available for the public right after or alongside developers.

Last year, Samsung unveiled the Android 14-based One UI 6 in October. But this time, the launch has extended to the Galaxy S25 series release in 2025.

However, the moderator’s latest clarification has confirmed that Samsung phone users may soon get the chance to test the One UI 7.0 software and its features. While the time is still unclear, it might be around December this year.

Being the latest flagship in the Samsung gallery, the Galaxy S24 series will be the first to fetch the new One UI 7.0 beta program. Meanwhile, the tech giant will add more devices to the list as the beta will proceed to the next rounds.

Samsung One UI 7.0 will launch next year but a tipster managed to get the initial look of the new upgrade’s Quick Settings. Yes, a new leak presents the incredible look of the One UI 7.0 Control Panel and its design changes ahead of the stable release.

X tipster @UniverseIce has shared an alleged mockup of Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra that highlights the One UI 7.0 Quick Settings panel and it looks quite impressive.

Looking into the image, the Quick Settings UI shows a more clean, simple, and easy-to-navigate appearance. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth tabs are now bigger highlighting a huge pill-shaped structure. Both these tabs are placed at the top.

Below these functions, the Control Panel has a 4 x 2 layout which shows 8 quick setting toggles. Users may expand this bar up to 16 toggles. The next section exhibits the audio controller with some tools that let you change the music without opening the respective application.

Ahead, the Quick Settings has two rounded-square-like structures for the brightness and volume adjuster. One can directly opt for Eye comfort and Dark mode through the brightness adjuster. Meanwhile, the volume controller shows sound settings.

Finally, there are two more tabs, just like the ones at starting. These tabs reflect the Smart View and Device Control. There are some changes to the network and battery indicators at the top of the Quick Settings. Also, the overall appearance is quite blurry but highlights and solid background.

Huawei vs MediaTek patent dispute is all set to enter the next phase. Both companies have crossed swords over patent breaching. Now their fight is on the verge of entering another phase where it will take new turns: an official lawsuit.

Before we learn about the new points, let’s take a flashback about this conflict!

Around 2-3 years back, MediaTek and Huawei were about to collaborate on the patent licensing. This particular deal between parties enables one to use another’s patent for inventions or sell it in the tech market. It also requires a specific royalty.

The deal didn’t seem much impressive to the chipmaker. As per MediaTek, the patent fee structure was quite high and it denied the deal. Eventually, the agreement turned into a conflict after which, Huawei filed a lawsuit against the Taiwanese firm.

MediaTek further counterattacked the Chinese tech giant with a case in the UK. As of now, a report claimed that the Huawei vs Mediatek patent dispute will enter the next phase (official court case) by October 25, 2024, after the Chinese Golden Week.

Both parties will appear in court and keep their points regarding the patent infringement. For reference, the Chinese tech giant filed a case in China’s local court whereas, MediaTek has lodged the case in the UK’s high court.

Huawei MediaTek dispute next phase

A major reason behind this conflict was shifting the patent licensing from the device level to the component level. Devices mostly depend on tech parts like cellular networks, chips, sensors, and more. But when it comes to patent fees, the royalty is being collected by the phone makers, which puts a huge pressure on them.

To avoid this situation, Huawei turned on the component-level patent fee collection. Doing so will also relieve the expense of smartphones in the consumer market.

If look back, Huawei filed patent violation lawsuits against various companies including Samsung, Xiaomi, Amazon, and more. The one with Samsung happened in 2017 when the Chinese court ordered the Galaxy phone maker to pay $11.6 million.

Xiaomi and Huawei’s dispute over patent infringement is not a secret to us. A few comments resulted in a huge buzz last year. You can read the complete story HERE.

Let’s see how the situation proceeds in the Huawei and MediaTek case in the time ahead.
