Samsung is adopting impressive UI changes with One UI 7.0 and app icons are no exception to this theory. A new leak suggests that the company has once again redesigned multiple app icons with one of the internal software testing versions.

X tipster @UniverseIce details a new One UI 7.0 internal testing build. He says that Samsung has revamped several app icons with the latest One UI 7.0 version.

The company has specifically made changes to the Gallery, Phone, Camera, Voice Recorder, Contacts, and Notes app icons. Samsung phone users will probably notice beautiful and appealing changes in the user interface with the One UI 7 upgrade.

Further input reveals that the new app icons are more reasonable and far better looking than ever before. It seems Samsung is now working as per users’ feedback.

Samsung is readying more modern and comprehensive app icons this time that can be soothing to the eyes. These improvements will ultimately boost the user interface and make it more attractive than the previous One UI software updates.

Revamps and adjustments are the part of software upgrade. As the testing proceeds, users may witness better and more efficient changes in the One UI 7.0.

A previous hands-on video revealed that Samsung is focusing on a cleaner and clutter-free interface. The new changes and enhancements will likely appear in the first One UI 7.0 beta, expectedly scheduled for later this year.

One UI 7.0 will go official next year alongside the Galaxy S25 series. Till then, the company will surely adopt more useful and attractive changes to provide the best software experience to its users.

Samsung has disappointed its users by delaying the One UI 7.0 launch but to excite you a little, we have a hands-on video of the new software. Here is a slight but real glimpse of how the upcoming One UI version will appear on your Samsung phone.

The new One UI 7 hands-on video is from a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. The device is running an ‘in-development’ or early build of the upcoming software upgrade.

So without any delay, let’s jump into the hands-on shots.

The early One UI 7.0 live video shows some interesting changes in the Quick Settings, Notification Panel, App icons, recent section, and of course, the animation side.

Quick Settings and Notification Panel: Separate!

Galaxy S24 Ultra hands-on video shows a separate Notification Panel and Quick Settings. Starting with the Notification Panel, it has larger and more rounded pill-shaped bars showing the notifications. These pills have a down arrow to expand the alert with some in-app settings.

The page also highlights a new battery-level icon at the top and two tabs at the bottom: Settings (left) and Clear (right). One can access alert settings or clear them with a tap.

Quick Settings: This section appears more recognizable than before. Just like the Notification Panel, the Control Center has more rounded pills compared to the squarish-shape. It can cover the entire screen in one swipe to show additional settings.

Apps Drawer and Icons:

The search bar of the app drawer now appears at the bottom for easy access. It further has a three-line icon to enhance the search capability for apps and other services.

Icons: Samsung is seemingly giving a new makeover to app icons with One UI 7.0. All the system applications like Camera, Gallery, Phone, Settings, and more showed up in a new design, better than the previous software version.

Finder: The respective feature in the app drawer can now expand the keyboard by default. It also displays a pill that allows users to add the Finder on the Quick Settings. One can also select or prevent apps from appearing in the Finder.

Recent Apps Panel: The recent apps section now looks more like iOS. One UI 7 will offer a stack layout with significant transitions for the recent applications panel.

Galaxy Avatar

A new Galaxy Avatar tool has also sneaked from the Advanced Features section. It only reveals Avatar stickers and the Avatar Camera option. One can design new clothes for their avatars. It might be a new form of AR Emoji feature.

Regarding animation smoothness, the video shows slight lags while operating the device. That could be due to the early build of One UI 7. Perhaps, the tech giant may enhance the smoothness part by the time of the stable One UI 7 (Android 15) rollout.

Yes, the company will likely add more major improvements and features to the One UI 7 before its stable rollout next year.

Android 15 continues to swing in the testing phase with the new QPR1 Beta 1 update. Ahead of the stable release, the company has rolled out the first Quarterly Platform Release firmware with certain interface changes, new display settings, and more.

Google has pushed off the Android 15 QPR1 Beta 1 to devices like Pixel Fold, Tablet, and all the phone series till sixth generation. But the Pixel 9 series is an exception.

It is unclear why the newly launched handsets didn’t receive the new build. Google is offering the Android 15 Beta 4.2 update to these devices with new improvements, fixes, and a security patch. One can expect QPR1 for these devices soon.

Beta testers will receive the Android 15 QPR1 testing firmware with version AP41.240726.009. The firmware holds some hidden features for Pixel devices. It also accompanies the August 2024 security patch for a bug-free experience.

For changes, Android 15 beta users may find display enhancements. The company has added a new predictive back gesture animation to the Google Keyboard. However, this feature remains confined to specific areas or apps in the Pixel smartphones.

The next change is the updated animation for holding down the quick settings tiles. It will now play a zooming pattern that gradually opens the particular setting.

It is worth mentioning that rolling back to the previous build from the new QPR1 Beta 1 update may wipe out all your data. If you want to avoid this situation, you can skip the latest firmware and wait for the stable rollout which could arrive next month.

Huawei and Samsung are great tech vendors in the smartphone industry but when it comes to UI smoothness, the former is two steps ahead. In the race for a unique, personalized, and easy user interface, Huawei is leading while Samsung is lagging.

Samsung has been ruling the Android world with its high-profile Galaxy S series for years. Even though the company didn’t make dynamic shifts in the design, it kept upgrading the device with powerful Qualcomm and its self-developed Exynos chips.

The South Korean firm used AI features as another weapon to maintain its position in the global smartphone market. Galaxy S24 series is the latest example of smart AI features. It’s something that Huawei lacks in its overseas smartphone units.

But one thing where Samsung lags far behind Huawei is software and UI smoothness. While the former is still struggling to make its One UI more efficient and fluent, the latter seems to have mastered the field. How so? Let’s find it out in detail.

Samsung has been trying to improve its UI animations for the past three years. The company was said to enhance its software smoothness with One UI 5.0 (Android 13).

Test: HarmonyOS 3.0 vs One UI 5.0

Although Huawei pushed off the company in this race with HarmonyOS 3.0. The software dynamically responded to swipe-up gestures and other animation scenarios over One UI 5.0 during a test. It even surpassed the iOS 16 operating system.

On the other hand, One UI 5.0 gave sluggish UI outcomes with slow and non-fluent animations. Even though the company tried to improve this problem with One UI 6 and other versions, it persisted even on flagship phones like the Galaxy S series.

Samsung is still lacking smoothness in phone UI but Huawei no longer

Comparison of HarmonyOS 3.0, One UI 5.0, and iOS 16 UI (Image Credits: Ice Universe/X)

Animation Issues with Flagship Devices:

Users of Galaxy S23 handsets reported last year that they continue to face jittery animations on several third-party apps. The UI isn’t smooth enough and often lags while performing quick gestures or other important operations on the device.

“…All I’m seeing is micro stutters all over. Even YouTube is doing it for me now, so not only 3rd party apps. I came from an iPhone 11 Pro Max, due to 60Hz it definitely wasn’t as smooth. But it was ‘smoother’ since there were no weird lag issues like S23.” – said a Reddit user.

The problem continues…

A reliable tipster @UniverseIce recently said that Samsung is the only brand unable to achieve trouble-free system animations. While scrolling or swiping on One UI 6, the animation either cuts off in the middle or the app icons suddenly disappear.

Many users facing similar issues agreed with the tipster’s point. Despite AI features and sky-touching priced phones, Samsung disappointed users with UI smoothness. The problem might not have affected every Samsung phone user, yet it is there.

Huawei EMUI software and UI

Huawei, on the flip side, is making huge leaps in UI customizations and smoother animations. Whether we talk about EMUI 14 or HarmonyOS 4.2 the company has made its software much more fluent than any other OS in the current scenario.

A huge credit goes to Huawei’s self-developed Ark Engine. The tech giant has used a beneficial component that significantly reduces lagging and enhances smoothness. Compared to One UI, the latest EMUI 14.2 build offers faster image loading, smoother motions, and quicker app launches in Huawei smartphones.

Regardless of numerous apps running in the background, the software responds to the user’s operation in no time, without ruining the visual experience.

HarmonyOS NEXT vs One UI 7

Huawei is now focusing on HarmonyOS NEXT. The stable version is yet to be released. But ahead of that, many tipsters exploring the testing builds said that HarmonyOS NEXT is far smoother than other OS like One UI, iOS, and more.

Samsung is also working on improving the animation part with One UI 7. But whether it will be able to resolve the previous issues completely is still a question.

Not only the software, but Huawei is bringing smoothness to the next level with HarmonyOS native apps. Compared to other Android apps, these applications will be 20-30% smoother. Thus, Huawei seems ready to raise the competition for Samsung in UI smoothness.

HarmonyOS NEXT beta version will arrive in June this year and while it has some time to approach general users, a new home screen leak shows the HarmonyOS NEXT UI (user interface). The overall segments seem quite improved and fresh to the eyes.

A Weibo tipster @Flanker_017 has recently posted some home screen images, revealing the UI sections of the HarmonyOS NEXT. The pictures belong to the standard Huawei Mate 60 smartphone as well as highlight the entire user interface.

Developer Preview 2:

The first screenshot reveals that the Mate 60 handset is running on the HarmonyOS NEXT developer preview 2 version. Perhaps the tech giant would have added some more enhancements and bug fixes to the device with the new software build.

Although the firmware changelog details are currently missing and the company has not announced the HarmonyOS NEXT developer preview 2 version yet. Hence we need to wait for some official details on this subject to confirm the changelog.

No Android Apps!

It is worth noting that there are no Android apps in the software system and the home screen only highlights the HarmonyOS native app. This reflects that HarmonyOS NEXT will eliminate Android applications and remain independent throughout.

Further input reveals that some local apps like WeChat and Notes app that contain large amounts of data could require special processing to get pre-install in the HarmonyOS NEXT operating system. Or else, it might affect the user experience on being re-extract from the official Huawei Cloud facility.

During the HarmonyOS NEXT developer preview launch, the CEO of the Huawei Consumer Business Group – Yu Chengdong mentioned that the new HarmonyOS NEXT is a true OS, which is ultimately smoother and faster than its previous versions.

Tipster @FixedFocus recently dropped an image on Weibo describing the HarmonyOS NEXT user interface for tablets. The picture holds the new Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 and Mate 60 Pro smartphone.

Tablet:

Eventually, the overall interface on the tablet appears minimalistic and user-friendly. It further highlights a clean app bar with medium-sized icons to quickly switch between frequently used applications. Besides, the music widget appears at the center of the screen with clear fonts and tabs.

The tipster also mentions that the new system update may result in the elimination of data from your devices. Hence, it is important to take a complete backup beforehand.

HarmonyOS NEXT is a self-developed and real operating system that runs on entirely new and original components. It doesn’t rely upon traditional Linux and has completely cut ties with Android applications.

Meanwhile, the company is working to expand the scope of new OS in China. Huawei hopes to develop around 5000+ HarmonyOS native apps by the end of this year. Till now, more than 70 gaming apps have finished the HarmonyOS native app development.

In the second quarter of 2024, the Chinese tech giant will gear up the HarmonyOS NEXT development phase and release the developer beta version. Whereas, the stable build will roll out by Q4. It would be worth seeing what new additions the software system will bring to the surface.

HarmonyOS NEXT is likely to bring a variety of significant features to the surface along with an adaptive and responsive user interface for multiple devices. Perhaps, the company wants to benefit its users in every manner with the new software system.

Weibo tipster @FixedFocus says that a few codes in the HarmonyOS NEXT software show the presence of adaptive and responsive user interface designs. Eventually, these layouts simplify app development for developers without putting in extra effort or spending much time.

In other words, developers can build a single app that will efficiently run on multiple devices including folding phones, tablets, smartphones, and more. It can easily fit with different screen sizes and offer a convenient visual experience.

  • Adaptive Design: This layout demands a separate design for each device. It needs different versions based on different screen sizes for instance: 320px, 480px, 760px, 960px, and 1600px. It requires more time and effort in development.
  • Responsive Design: It can easily adjust as per the screen width and requires less work. Also, the same app interface will show up on every device with changes based on the size of the screen. You can simply make amendments without starting from scratch.

HarmonyOS NEXT customized user interface

Both capabilities play distinct roles. Yet the latter is more beneficial and helps developers to adapt to different screen sizes in one development. It also eliminates the burden of workload and enhances the user interface with better navigation.

Such user interfaces support a variety of prominent functions such as multitasking, smooth swipe gestures between apps, better visuals, and multi-languages. Together, these features boost the overall experience for Huawei device owners.

Probably, HarmonyOS NEXT will offer impressive functionalities that will not only simplify heavy operations but remain helpful for daily entertainment as well on all those devices that you are using.

Note that the HarmonyOS software system already supports such features. Though the company could have improved them with the latest version. It would be worth seeing what major changes this OS will bring over previous versions.

Huawei Petal Maps is testing a new app version 3.3.0.205 in beta mode and it comes with a huge set of changes in terms of features tagged along with a brand-new user interface.

Starting with the user interface, a major change appears the moment you launch the application. It shows a new 3d globe and it renders way better. The globe highlights the home address and the current position pointer. Looking more into the matter, we found that the layer option is still in the top right corner, and the real-time location button is on the bottom right.

The bottom side gets you an eye-catching improvement. It blends the search bar and the taskbar together. Moreover, there are optimized icons for Explore, Directions, and Me tabs. To be noticed, this entire section is themed with background wallpaper.

Huawei Petal Maps huge User interface change

Features and optimizations:

Version 3.0.0.205 of Huawei Petal Maps gets you new high-precision navigation for better navigation around the clock. Also, it will expand the coverage to Malaysia, the Philippines, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, South Africa, Mexico, and Spain.

Adding to the features list, you can now measure the perimeter and area in the options. There is also a quality review notice in the app itself.

Aside from adding features and the user interface, Huawei is keen on optimizing the user experience by adding navigation broadcast optimization to enrich the scenario of stopping and starting at the traffic lights. It also optimizes the distance reminder.

Once the navigation reaches an intersection, most of the vehicle tracks are arc-shaped and cannot reach the turning point. It is resolved with optimization of the wrong at the intersection. The interaction page of the comment feature is also optimized with the new update.

This is a huge user interface overhaul as compared to the past Huawei Petal Maps but version 3.3.0.205 is currently in beta activity and will soon make its way to public users.

Thanks, Fabrizio for sharing the information, if you want to download the APK for this beta version visit the download link here (link). As a reminder, it’s a beta variant and not a stable application.
