Huawei today attended the 2024 World Intelligent Connected Vehicle event in Beijing. During the conference, the company’s senior executive delivered a keynote and responded to Huawei Intelligent Driving and Tesla FSD rivalry questions.

Yu Chengdong – the Chairman of Huawei Smart Automotive Solution said that the firm is reaching new heights in smart car solutions. It is becoming more advanced day by day and aims to provide its automakers with the best carmaking techs.

At the event, some attendees questioned how he sees Tesla FSD against the Huawei Intelligent Driving Unit. In response, Yu Chengdong said he’s quite confident about the company’s smart car solutions and expects a win in this game.

Tesla FSD (Full Self-Driving) will likely enter China in the first quarter of the next year. A regulatory approval is still pending on this matter which ultimately delayed the time from the end of this year to early 2025.

FSD is one of the most autonomous versions of Tesla’s Autopilot software. It is a collection of advanced driver assistance features that offers stable and energetic assisted driving. But it still needs active driver supervision to work effectively.

During the event, Yu mentioned that Huawei Intelligent Driving is slightly better than Tesla FSD. He stated that even the vehicles without a LiDAR will perform better than those with FSD. Meanwhile, the LiDAR variant will be a stronger opponent.

“They (Tesla) didn’t use LiDAR, but we did, which made up for the perception capability. We are slightly better than them in China.”

Yu adds that FSD performs well enough. But when we tested and compared both driving solutions in the US, Canada, and other countries, Huawei had led this game.

How Tesla and Huawei Intelligent Driving will compete with each other will be seen in 2025.

Huawei Consumer Business Group Chairman – Yu Chengdong recently said that no one is allowed to leak unreleased devices, or else it will result in a fine. The executive stated this in the context of being photographed with the Mate XT in a plane.

Yu Chengdong attended a short interview a few days back. The executive talked about some topics including Mate XT innovation, hardware, and HarmonyOS software.

During the interrogation, the host talked about how the executive got snapped with the Mate XT tri-fold twice. On this matter, Yu Chengdong responded that leaking unreleased Huawei devices has strict punishments and will result in a fine.

The Chairman further said that Huawei doesn’t allow its executives or other officials to leak secrets of unreleased Huawei devices like design, images, or any other details.

Although if someone opts for it, they are subject to fines. The company has the right to information security and can take steps on such activities whenever it wants to.

Yu recalled the scenario and mentioned that while traveling he unfolded and used the Mate XT as a tablet to cover its appearance. But people with sharp eyes noticed the design of the device. They might thought of how a tablet could be so thin and considered it as tri-fold.

“We have information security, and leaks will be fined. Because I thought it would appear like a tablet to everyone. But people with sharp eyes might doubt it. ” – says Yu Chengdong.

The host asked that it wasn’t hard for anyone not to discover the tri-fold, in any occasion. Yu responded that he had been using the Mate XT as a tablet for several months before launch. The trick was to use it as a tablet so people may not know.

“I often used the phone on the plane so I didn’t expect that it would be discovered by sharp-eyed people once or twice. I had been using it for several months before it launched in the consumer market.”

Huawei’s Yu Chengdong have been captured twice with the Mate XT triple-foldable before its launch. The first time users saw the chairman in the plane using the device in an unfolded state. The second time he was captured with the phone in a single-screen state, showing off the giant camera.

However, the company ensures to keep its unreleased devices completely a secret until a week before the launch, or the launch day. It tried to maintain this strategy with Mate XT as well. Although the phone leaked out due to the “sharp eyes of netizens”.

Mate XT tri-fold is available on sale. The device is currently available for pre-registered users. Although Huawei may soon open a wider sale activity for everyone including the walk-in customers. You can read more about the Mate XT device HERE.

Yu Chengdong – Huawei Consumer Business Group Chairman believes that the self-developed Kirin chips are playing a vital role in China’s growth. This is why, most Huawei phones and devices began using Kirin chips and China-made components.

While wrapping up last night’s broadcast, Yu Chengdong talked about how consumers supported the company even at bad times. He added that other tech vendors may see Huawei as an ordinary firm, but it has significantly contributed to China’s growth with its Kirin chips.

Yu Chengdong says that using a Huawei product automatically adds to the country’s progress. This is so because the company mainly uses self-developed Kirin chips for its devices. These Kirin processors have saved the company from going into losses.

He further states that one can check a Huawei phone. Tearing it down will show that it mostly contains China-made components and Kirin chips, instead of foreign parts.

“If a customer uses Huawei products then he/she is also contributing to the rise of China’s electronic industry.” – says Yu Chengdong.

A good example of this case is the Pura 70 series (especially the base model), which is said to have 33 Chinese parts, the highest number to date. Mate 60 Pro also reported to contain 18% more China-made parts compared to Mate 40 Pro.

Huawei’s Chairman mentioned that they are still behind in the field of semiconductor technology. But that doesn’t put it much back. The company has advanced software that supplements its devices and other products, improving their performance.

Yu also notes that new software versions enhance the experience of the device for users. Though the company is trying its best to become better in chip tech soon.

The executive added that Huawei is achieving new milestones in every field. After a lot of hustle and bustle, the company is making new steps that are not only leading to self-progress but also clearing obstacles for the native region’s growth in the world.

A new report reveals that Yu Chengdong, one of the senior executives in Huawei will no longer serve as the CEO but as the Chairman of the Device Business Group. The OEM made some adjustments to its personnel management for better growth.

Details by @36Krypton reveal that the former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Huawei Device Group – He Gang will now take over the responsibilities of the CEO position.

The official document shows that Huawei never had a Chairman for its Device Business Group, which encouraged it to initiate such a post in the device work line.

Hence Yu Chengdong has stepped down from the CEO position and will sit on the Chairman seat of the Huawei Device Business. People related to the company said that changes are normal and nothing special in a company’s senior executive’s life.

Note that this promotion has simply expanded Yu’s scope of duties in the company. Yu Chengdong will now have to look after as the Managing Director, Chairman of Device Business, Chairman of smart car solutions, and Director of IRB (Investment Review Board) for smart devices and car components.

5G is a revolutionary technology, as it’s helping various fields in the industry to gain momentum and pace up daily tasks. As the latest revealing got us amazed that 5G has achieved over 700 million users worldwide.

During the 2022 Global Mobile Broadband Forum, Huawei‘s rotating chairman Ken Hu delivered a keynote speech on 5G. He revealed how 5G has progressed so far as well as the challenges that lie ahead.

As of October 2022, more than 230 carriers around the world have launched commercial 5G services. In total, the industry has set up over three million 5G base stations, serving more than 700 million subscribers.

As compared to 4G, the user experience of 5G has been greatly improved. This has doubled the Internet traffic (DOU) and increased ARPU by 20% to 40%, driving the steady growth of operators’ connection revenue.

Huawei 5g

“5G has grown faster than any previous generation of mobile technology,” began Hu. “In just three years, we’ve seen solid progress in network deployment, consumer services, and industrial applications.”

Simultaneously, 5G industry-oriented applications are opening new ways of growth for operators’ revenue in the fields of oil and gas, manufacturing, transportation, and more.

Meanwhile, new applications driven by 5G have emerged in many markets around the world. These applications not only bring about business innovation but also begin to bring actual business value to operators.

For example, in 2021, Chinese carriers brought in over CNY3.4 billion (roughly USD500 million) in new revenue from more than 3,000 industrial 5G projects. What’s more, these projects also generated 10 times that amount from related data and integrated ICT services.

5.5G is the next upgrade for 5G network and Huawei is working with industry partners to promote this upcoming network access.

5.5G has its own advantages including 10 Gbps downlink, 1 Gbps uplink, support for 100 billion connections, and native intelligence.

“I hope the industry will work together to promote the definition of 5.5G standards, spectrum acquisition and industrial chain construction,” said Ken Hu.
