Huawei launches the Sound X4 speaker with an impressive design as well as iconic sound features. The device supports Super Bass, colorful light indicators, and many other interesting capabilities to offer the best sound experience to users.

Let’s explore the newly launched speaker in detail.

Design

Huawei launches Sound X4 speaker with the same 3D curved surface as the previous-gen models. It brings smart colorful light effects that move as per the sound. The device is available in two bashing colors: Rhythmic Black and Dynamic White.

Internal parameters: Speakers

It has a dimension of 175.6 x 175.6 x 224mm and weighs around 3150 gm. Sound X4 packs a pure titanium film tweeter, a self-developed mica fiber diaphragm with a midrange speaker, and a 50W sub-tweeter to provide clear sound all the time.

The device supports eight-speaker units which count one 4.75-inch woofer (rated 50W power), four 1.5-inch full-range speakers (5W power each), one 1.25-inch tweeter (3W power), and two passive radiators. It has a frequency response range of 40kHz.

All these eight units bring sound effects like a symphony orchestra. Huawei Sound X4 supports dual channels and an AC adapter with a 24V/2.71A power supply. The compact speaker also has six microphones with a ring array.

Device Controls

Huawei Sound X4 has the following touch buttons: Volume + – button, mic button, play/pause tab, and a lighting control tab on the top center. It can well manage voice, app, and button controls and ensures an interruption-free sound experience.

Honor MagicOS 9.0 and HarmonyOS NEXT Control Panel have allegedly appeared in a new leak. The details and overall arrangement of the quick setting icons are quite similar between both operating systems. Let’s explore them in detail.

Weibo tipster @RuiPlaysDigital shared an image of two Control Panels, claiming them to be of HarmonyOS NEXT and MagicOS 9.0. One of these is similar to an early revelation of HarmonyOS NEXT Control Center and adds consent on this matter.

The tipster says the only difference between HarmonyOS NEXT and Honor MagicOS 9.0 Control Panel is the arrangement of widgets. For instance, the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth tabs, audio controller, volume and brightness adjuster, and so on.

Meanwhile, other features and icons of these two Control Panels are quite identical to each other. The blur effect between the two also differs to some extent but possesses the same capability. Let’s explore both Control Panels one by one.

Honor MagicOS 9.0 Control Panel

The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth tabs are placed vertically on the top left, beside the hotspot section. Below these buttons, users will find the media player and two adjusters: brightness and volume. Settings and Edit icons are also visible above the hotspot.

At the topmost side, there is a battery indicator and other network services icon. The rest of the Control Panel is full of quick setting icons like ring, rotate, and more.

The live image shows an opaque background rather than a slight blur. But that could be the wallpaper effect. Other changes will be clear by the MagicOS 9.0 launch.

HarmonyOS NEXT MagicOS Control Panel

HarmonyOS NEXT Control Panel

The current appearance is quite similar to a previous leak. It shows merged items instead of separate ones. Just opt for a simple “swipe down” gesture to see all the icons alongside a large brightness adjuster, which is not visible in this picture.

All the icons and tabs appear at equidistance from each other. The tiny icons are now more round than ever before and seem quite big as well as recognizable.

One side of the Control Panel shows the setting icon while the other one highlights the editing option. The background seems more blurry, giving the effect of the main wallpaper on the Control Panel which ultimately makes it more appealing.

Concluding the points, the tipster said that HarmonyOS NEXT Control Panel isn’t the final version. Huawei could make more changes and modify it with the stable version. Thus, we may find more interesting changes between the two major OS(s) later.

HarmonyOS NEXT-based WeChat app is open for public testing and has a set of new features including a seamless chat transfer tool. Huawei devices running on the latest software beta build can now experience these changes and app capabilities.

Weibo tipster @AdakFenglangjuxu mentioned that Huawei device users who upgraded to HarmonyOS NEXT can use the WeChat seamless chat transfer tool.

From the name, the feature will efficiently transfer all the chat records of WeChat to the new software system, without losing any details or other data of the app. Ensure that you are using the WeChat HarmonyOS NEXT application version.

The feature seems quite effective. Often users concern about the device data and chats while upgrading their device to a new OS. Doing so leads to conversation loss and requires multiple processes to transfer the chat records locally.

Although WeChat HarmonyOS NEXT app has resolved this problem with a seamless chat transfer tool. Note this feature will only support Huawei devices upgraded to the HarmonyOS NEXT beta version. Others have to wait for subsequent builds.

The tipster further reveals that HarmonyOS NEXT has great changes for the Control Center. It may also bring an iOS-like live map to users for easy navigation.

HarmonyOS NEXT could further adopt a one-tap lock screen access capability and some more effective changes. A recent feature of the new OS is app cloning which can split the original app into 5 clones so that users can effectively run the application.

More such features are on the way. Many native HarmonyOS apps are now open for public testing. The drawback is only HarmonyOS NEXT beta users can explore these applications. But Huawei may expand the software testing to more device owners in the coming weeks.

Samsung has disappointed its users by delaying the One UI 7.0 launch but to excite you a little, we have a hands-on video of the new software. Here is a slight but real glimpse of how the upcoming One UI version will appear on your Samsung phone.

The new One UI 7 hands-on video is from a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. The device is running an ‘in-development’ or early build of the upcoming software upgrade.

So without any delay, let’s jump into the hands-on shots.

The early One UI 7.0 live video shows some interesting changes in the Quick Settings, Notification Panel, App icons, recent section, and of course, the animation side.

Quick Settings and Notification Panel: Separate!

Galaxy S24 Ultra hands-on video shows a separate Notification Panel and Quick Settings. Starting with the Notification Panel, it has larger and more rounded pill-shaped bars showing the notifications. These pills have a down arrow to expand the alert with some in-app settings.

The page also highlights a new battery-level icon at the top and two tabs at the bottom: Settings (left) and Clear (right). One can access alert settings or clear them with a tap.

Quick Settings: This section appears more recognizable than before. Just like the Notification Panel, the Control Center has more rounded pills compared to the squarish-shape. It can cover the entire screen in one swipe to show additional settings.

Apps Drawer and Icons:

The search bar of the app drawer now appears at the bottom for easy access. It further has a three-line icon to enhance the search capability for apps and other services.

Icons: Samsung is seemingly giving a new makeover to app icons with One UI 7.0. All the system applications like Camera, Gallery, Phone, Settings, and more showed up in a new design, better than the previous software version.

Finder: The respective feature in the app drawer can now expand the keyboard by default. It also displays a pill that allows users to add the Finder on the Quick Settings. One can also select or prevent apps from appearing in the Finder.

Recent Apps Panel: The recent apps section now looks more like iOS. One UI 7 will offer a stack layout with significant transitions for the recent applications panel.

Galaxy Avatar

A new Galaxy Avatar tool has also sneaked from the Advanced Features section. It only reveals Avatar stickers and the Avatar Camera option. One can design new clothes for their avatars. It might be a new form of AR Emoji feature.

Regarding animation smoothness, the video shows slight lags while operating the device. That could be due to the early build of One UI 7. Perhaps, the tech giant may enhance the smoothness part by the time of the stable One UI 7 (Android 15) rollout.

Yes, the company will likely add more major improvements and features to the One UI 7 before its stable rollout next year.

Samsung will reveal One UI 7 software at its annual developer conference with new capabilities but can it compete against HarmonyOS NEXT and iOS 18?

Samsung is the largest Android partner and sells most devices in each quarter. Despite this dominance, the South Korean tech firm is a latecomer in the software experience.

It made some changes in One UI 6 including a new quick settings panel and new controls. These are much appreciated by One UI users but that doesn’t reflect any solution for a core issue.

The software feels more rigid and animations are still not fluid enough to fully utilize the device’s hardware performance. The user interface has improved over time yet Samsung could do even better.

One UI 7 will be based on Android 15, the latest Android software version. There are new camera optimizations, better navigation capabilities, satellite connectivity support, and more.

Aside from these, what do the competitors have to offer?

iOS 18

Apple has recently refreshed its iOS operating system for iPhones. It has drastically changed the software UI, improved personalization, and optimized animation effects throughout the system.

For example, the two new popular sections in this new OS are the control center and home screen. Apple is now allowing users to customize the control center and add custom controls.

This feature is already available in Android devices but Apple took it to the next level with new customizations. You can resize control buttons based on the space and group them. iOS 18 users can also manage different control screens based on their categories for an improved experience.

Another addition is the app icons with colors based on a tint selection right on the screen without even going to the settings. These capabilities are far more accessible compared to Samsung or Android.

Coming to the performance, the app and animations open slightly faster and animations are optimized to feel surrealistic, except for the 60Hz devices.

HarmonyOS NEXT

Coming to the new player, HarmonyOS NEXT is a new operating system based on HarmonyOS. Huawei has been polishing this Android-influenced OS for the past four years.

The software has now achieved a native app ecosystem in the Chinese market. It is redesigned for maximum fluidity and physics-based controls.

In comparison to One UI 6, HarmonyOS (not HarmonyOS NEXT) performs far better in smoothness and app interactions. HarmonyOS NEXT has even better interactions with the native experience.

One UI 7 will be better?

Even though Samsung may not achieve superiority over these two software, it should at least come to the same level as its competitors because it will eventually benefit its customers. We’ll see what the company unveils at SDC event.

Google will likely change how the Quick Settings and Notification Panel appear on your phone, with Android 16. However, instead of being an effective and beneficial makeover, this new modification could annoy smartphone users to some extent.

The Android 16 Quick Settings and Notification Panel tweak has appeared ahead of the Android 15 stable release. Spotted in the Android 15 QPR1 beta, the U.S. firm plans to separate the Quick Settings and Notification Panel with the next upgrade.

Up to this point, Android software used to offer a unified Notification Panel and Quick Settings. But with the next Android version, Google could change this pattern.

Starting with the Notification Panel, users will be able to access the panel via a single swipe gesture. But rather than covering the entire screen, the panel will only take a quarter of the display. Notably, this gesture won’t let you access Quick Settings.

Android 16 Quick Settings Panel

Android 16 Notification Panel (Image Credits: AndroidAuthority)

For the Control Center, users need to swipe down on the screen with two fingers. This could be slightly annoying as it ends the one-hand accessibility. Although Google might make new changes or enhancements to this segment in the time ahead.

Quick Settings will further reflect a dual-shade design throughout. Also, the brightness adjuster now appears in a thick pill shape and shows a text label, just like volume sliders. Users may also see 2 x 2 grid tiles and 4 x 2 grids for narrow tiles.

The Quick Settings will show 12-16 tiles per page. One can swipe left or right to access more settings. Light mode could be another addition. This is just an initial look and Google could make changes to these panels with the next versions.

Huawei Central’s Take:

Separate Quick Settings and Notification Panel – well, that reminds us of the Huawei phones. The Chinese OEM introduced this concept with EMUI 12 based on extensive research on user preferences and psychology. One can easily go through all alerts and notifications at a time without getting stuck due to Quick Settings.

Years later, smartphone makers started adopting the same pattern for their Android skin. Xiaomi’s HyperOS and now Google are examples in this case. But instead of making it a tough task, Huawei simplified the dual panels with easy one-finger gestures.

How Google will renovate this idea with Android 16 would be worth looking at.

Huawei tri-fold is ready to enter the real world on September 10, crossing swords with the iPhone 16 series. The Chinese OEM officially announced its new Autumn launch event for the next week, unveiling several goodies-like products for consumers.

The company didn’t make a direct announcement for the tri-fold phone’s release. However, Yu Chengdong – the Chairman of Huawei Consumer Business Group pointed out the launch of the most innovative and unique product on September 10.

Yu Chengdong said the company’s epoch creation is here! It’s a product that others have thought of but cannot make. After years of hard work and consistency, Huawei successfully turned science fiction into reality. The pinnacle work is now ready.

Huawei Autumn launch event September 10

Notably, the executive has said the same words during a live stream about the company’s triple foldable phone. Thus, the wait is over and the iconic Huawei tri-fold handset will take center stage on September 10 with interesting features.

This event further redeems a clash voucher between Huawei and Apple for their upcoming phone products. The US firm will unveil the iPhone 16 series on September 9. Once again, the two tech giants are ready to give a tough spot to each other.

iPhone 16 Series:

Apple continues to face sales slowdown in China due to heavy competition by rivals. However, the company has high hopes for its upcoming iPhone series and foresees it as a major move to increase its sales.

The next-gen iPhone models seem to bring major upgrades over previous handsets. Apple has ditched the traditional square camera module for a slim vertical lens arrangement with pill-shaped housing. The appearance is more thin than before.

Huawei tri-fold iPhone 16

Apple iPhone 16 series render (Image Credits: Macrumors)

The tech maker will likely replace the mute button on the left side with an Action switch – just like the iPhone 15 Pro models. The right side has a new Capture tab.

Apple aims to use micro-lens tech for better and improved brightness with reduced power consumption. It also uses a Border Reduction Structure for the slimmest bezel sizes. Another major change seems a faster A-series chip based on a 3nm process. The OEM also worked on thermal aspects to control heat dissipation effectively.

Huawei Tri-Fold

Yu Chengdong has flaunted the triple foldable several times. As per some early inputs, the device will fetch a Kirin 9 series chip with a giant circular camera module and the slimmest body structure. It may also use various AI capabilities and features.

Another change would be a durable hinge technology with an inward + outward folding mechanism. A 10-inch display with a UTG solution will likely make the phone much more reliable than other foldable handsets on the market. Many of the specs are unknown but we grab them at the launch stage.

Competition:

The clash between Huawei tri-fold and iPhone 16 will raise the standard of competition in China. While one is the result of new upgrades, another reflects the world’s first tri-screen creation. Thus, the clash would be worth looking forward to!

Huawei has baked HarmonyOS 4.2 with useful tweaks, improved security, and other interesting features. But there is an AI tool that can help you, especially when you are struggling with hearing disability. Today we’re up with HarmonyOS 4.2 AI Subtitles.

AI subtitles would be a familiar feature to Huawei device users. The phone maker introduced this capability with HarmonyOS 2.0 and EMUI 11. But following the U.S. restriction, the company phased out this feature from its global software system.

On the flip side, Huawei kept upgrading the feature for its Chinese phones. HarmonyOS 4.2 is the latest and major software version that brings an enhanced form of AI Subtitles for its users. Let’s learn more about this feature and its significance.

HarmonyOS 4.2: AI Subtitles

From the name, AI subtitles generate real-time transcription of audio and video clips. It converts the music or video into texts at times when you are unable to play sound. The feature can easily translate multiple foreign languages into Chinese subtitles.

A new report says that Huawei, Baidu, and some other Chinese firms are stocking up Samsung HBM chips. The increasing U.S. restrictions on trade exports seem a major reason for the quick and more purchase of the South Korean firm’s AI chipsets.

The story began when the U.S. government started planning to further tighten export controls for China by this month. As per the new regulations, Chinese companies won’t be able to access high-bandwidth memory processors from foreign suppliers.

As a result, many Chinese firms including Huawei and Baidu rushed to stockpile Samsung HBM chips in advance. The process already started at the onset of this year. Although now, the OEMs are gearing up this AI chip purchase for a safe hand.

Thus, China now holds 30% of Samsung AI processors as of the first half of 2024. Despite harsh U.S. restrictions, Huawei and other Chinese firms are constantly making efforts to move ahead on the path of advancement and meet their AI tech goals.

When asked the U.S. Department of Commerce about their new trade export rules, it refused to comment. However, the only cause to upgrade these rules is to protect the U.S. national security as well as safeguard their technological ecosystem.

HBM or high bandwidth memory chip delivers ultra-wide communication coverage with low power consumption. Hence, offering efficient performance.

It overlaps many layers of memory chips to lessen footprints for conjunction via high-performance graphics accelerators, network devices, and high-performance data centers. These chips are important for developing advanced AI processors.

Apart from Samsung, there are two more major HBM producers – SK Hynix and Micron Technology. While the most advanced HBM version is HBM3E, China is focusing on the 2E model for slow but effective growth in the AI field.

Huawei so far, has been using Samsung HBM chipsets for its Ascend AI processors. At the same time, the company is in the headlines for building its own high-bandwidth memory chipsets. The tech giant might achieve this goal by 2026.

It also joined forces with new partners to get help for AI projects. Yet how the company would make things better amid growing U.S.-China chip tensions is worth looking forward to.
