Given these facts, Huawei already initiated this update last month for some smartphones but now it’s expanding for more of the devices. EMUI 13.1.0.168 update important addition to the Huawei P60 Pro and you can get it right away as soon as it appears.

Another aspect of the phone leads us to the brand new ultra lighting periscope zoom camera. This time, Huawei has used multi-lens architecture to boost more light in far-distance photographs.

This device uses an f/2.1 aperture sensor below the periscope lens to intake 178% light. That’s not it, you can now project the moon along with your subject, this is the most advanced camera feature in any smartphone.

Huawei is rolling out a brand new software update for the Huawei P60 Pro smartphone in the global market, It brings June 2023 security patch and system stability improvements for better performance.

Huawei P60 Pro comes with EMUI 13.1 pre-installed. It’s the first flagship in the Huawei cadre to get this EMUI version. Therefore, the phone carries a new set of features including better personalizations, animations, and more.

However, the company also continues to send new software updates to improve Huawei P60 Pro. These additions upgrade new features and optimize the performance for different scenarios. Everything combined, Huawei users can find this release more useful than ever before.

Changelog reveals that Huawei P60 Pro users can download the June 2023 software update with EMUI 13.1 version 13.1.0.162. Also, you will have to fetch a package size of 1.03 GB in order to grab it.

Meanwhile, Huawei is testing EMUI 13 in the predecessor, Huawei P50 Pro. Since it won’t get EMUI 13.1 and there’s not enough time to do it before EMUI 14, the company will roll out some of its improvements with the current version.

Still, Huawei P50 Pro will get more interesting with a new software installation and it’s a good thing for all customers. Yet, a stable rollout may take a few weeks for European models.

Thanks to the tipster for this amazing input 🙂

Following the launch of the Huawei P60 series in both the global and Chinese markets, I thought that Huawei will release EMUI 13.1 and HarmonyOS 3.1 for more smartphones but it “apparently” didn’t happen because the build numbers remained EMUI 13.0 and HarmonyOS 3.0 for older phones. However, recently we’ve found that Huawei is already seeding these two versions to its smartphones and it decided to remain low-key.

It’s because there are some complications, which you need to understand.

For that, we need to go back to the last year, when Huawei unveiled HarmonyOS 3.0. Afterward, Huawei released a large roadmap of devices. It turns out that Huawei announced HarmonyOS 3.1 in later 2022.

Similarly, EMUI 13 made its debut in October 2022 and confirmed entrance with Huawei Mate 50 Pro in the global market. Yet, the company didn’t even talk about any new roadmap from that time until March this year.

Earlier this year, Huawei announced EMUI 13.1 and HarmonyOS 3.1 with Huawei P60 series and Mate X3 smartphones for both global and Chinese consumers respectively.

Although, there was everything going smoothly in China with HarmonyOS 3 but nothing is right for global smartphones. Therefore, the company wants to match up the game here.

Recent Changes:

Last month, Huawei released a whole bunch of features for HarmonyOS smartphones in China. These features are directly taken from HarmonyOS 3.1. However, the company is not keen on changing the version for any of the older devices.

On the flip side, EMUI 13.1 is derived from HarmonyOS 3.1. That’s how the features acquired by the global Huawei P60 Pro are a direct reflection of the Chinese variant.

Similar to China, Huawei didn’t announce EMUI 13.1 upgrade plan because the tech maker is sending EMUI 13 instead. This is why, Huawei will either pick a large update for global EMUI 13 devices to install new features or these features will come alongside EMUI 13.

Why not label them as the new version?

One possible reason for this could the promotion of Huawei P60 series and Mate X3 smartphone, which is labelling these two new version as a part of their key features.

To conclude, the mystery of the feature of HarmonyOS 3.1 and EMUI 13.1 is now resolved. You can rest assured that Huawei will get the new to your device (EMUI 13) either one way or another.

EMUI 13.1 comes with brand-new features and Huawei has designed these to improve the user experience. Although it’s not a huge upgrade but the new additions are major improvements as compared to EMUI 12.

However, we can’t just talk about the summary here because you can check the key changes mentioned below.

EMUI 13.1 features:

  1. New Themes
  2. 3D Weather AOD
  3. Custom Lock Screen
  4. Better Icons
  5. Seamless Animations
  6. New Camera Zoom Ring and Quick Menu

EMUI 13.1 Features

Themes:

Huawei is promoting EMUI 13.1 with new themes for smartphones. There are several always-on-display themes that improve the user experience. For instance, Huawei P60 Pro and Mate X3 has their own themes powered by this new version.

3D Weather AOD:

EMUI 13.1 also brings 3D animated always on display. These are different than the traditional AOD feature and change dynamically based on the time of the day or weather.

Custom Lock Screen:

There are different lock screen customizations and custom art style AOD. You can now set full-screen wallpaper. This will automatically be rendered with animation and converted into an always-on display (AOD) similar to a pre-built theme.

Better Icons:

Huawei has made some refinements to the app icons. The shape of the icons is now better and smoother than EMUI 12. The graphics are also optimized to provide you with a better UI/UX experience.

Seamless Animations:

Animations are smoother than EMUI 13.0, the company has refined the gravity assist in several parts of the UI. For example, if you pull down the notification bar, the clock will show you a smooth transition in size change.

Another example of these animations is the tasks manager and service widget layout changer. These two will show you different levels of smoothness as feedback. Also, these aren’t the only animation effects because EMUI 13.1 has more that you can explore throughout different sections of the UI.

Camera app:

Last but not least, the biggest change after animations take us to the camera app. This a new capability that directly aims at a better photography user experience.

The camera now includes a new zoom ring, which is an upgrade from the side slider in EMUI 12. Also, there is a dedicated camera menu, which is now within reach of your thumb and stands right below the shutter button.

Roadmap:

These features are exciting but Huawei has not shared EMUI 13.1 expansion for old devices. However, we remain optimistic and wait for the people to first get EMUI 13.0.

EMUI 13 will rollout soon for eligible devices and the users are prepared to install this new gen software update. However, the delay in EMUI 13 might have a meaning, which we’ll try to find.

For that, we need to look at past releases, Huawei EMUI 12 was unveiled by the end of 2021. The company started testing this EMUI version in December. Followed by a large-scale release in the first quarter of 2022. This rollout included almost all devices in the current generation of the HMS ecosystem.

However, that is not the case with the latest EMUI. Because released all of the EMUI 13 features on the website in October last year.

Since then, the company remained in abstain mode for the rollout. After 6 months of the announcement, Huawei finally began EMUI 13 beta but this time it’s only limited to some markets. Meanwhile, the tech maker not revealed any details about the roadmap.

Last month, during the Huawei P60 series launch in the Asia Pacific region, Huawei shared the EMUI 13 upgrade plan. Yes, it’s a bit late.

Reason?

There are two devices and 1 software update, which may be at the center of this EMUI 13 rollout delay story.

Let’s start with Huawei Mate 50 Pro, the phone was announced in October in China. Then, it was scheduled for November for global customers. It was the first and only (then) to bring EMUI 13 pre-installed. Huawei also promoted EMUI 13 as one of the key selling points for the flagship.

However, the company then may have waited a little longer to release this update for old models.

Next comes Huawei P60 Pro, the phone landed in March in the home ground. And its global launch happened last month. The company packed this phone with EMUI 13.1, exclusive software for this new P-series smartphone along with Mate X3. However, the company is also promoting EMUI 13.1 as a key feature of the P60 Pro.

Situation explained:

As usual, the software and smartphone hardware design planning starts way ahead of the release date. Therefore, Huawei’s plans for the new EMUI 13 rollout for old phones also changed with phone releases.

With the release of new handsets, Huawei continues to amend plans for EMUI 13 rollout. Therefore, it may have come down to this that, EMUI 13.1 features are likely to reflect in EMUI 13.0.

However, we’ll have to wait to verify these assessments with the EMUI 13 OTA rollout.

Huawei has already announced its EMUI 13 roadmap for smartphones but now, there’s a twist in the story, which reveals that this new EMUI version could also have EMUI 13.1 features.

EMUI 13 will first rollout for Huawei P50 Pro, P50 Pocket, and Mate Xs 2 this month. The company also planned releases each month throughout this year.

On the other hand, EMUI 13.1 currently remains exclusive to recent flagships. For example, Huawei P60 Pro and Mate X3 are the two devices with this new EMUI version. Therefore, Huawei has not announced EMUI 13.1 for old devices.

But there’s a twist, which we shared last week. Huawei has released a new update for the Huawei Mate 50 series in China. And this is not a normal upgrade, bringing various new additions and optimizations to the system.

Speaking of which, these are quite identical to the latest version of HarmonyOS 3.1. Given the changes, the OTA package also weighs big at over 1GB.

The changelog shows this update brings new changes in service widgets. Animations are polished and the app guard is optimized. Turbo charging and multi-window are also enhanced. Huawei has marked new changes in the performance and stability of the device.

It’s a big changelog and consists of major upgrades for the user experience. Hence, these could be derived directly from HarmonyOS 3.1.

EMUI 13.1 EMUI 13

Why?

Currently, EMUI 13.1 and HarmonyOS 3.1 are part of the key selling points for Huawei P60 Pro and Mate X3. Therefore, Huawei might want to keep it exclusive.

But the tech maker doesn’t want to leave the old users without updated capabilities. That’s why, Huawei may have initiated all of those new functionalities with a monthly patch.

Why together?

Huawei is running quite late in terms of the EMUI 13 release. It’s halfway through this year, and now we’re about to witness the rollout. Yet, this should have been started by December last year.

Due to the late release, it’s possible that Huawei doesn’t has time to announce another upgrade plan. And combined both EMUI 13 and EMUI 13.1 in one package.

Still, there’s confirmation required to verify this fact. And, it would be interesting to see the OTA popping up on the eligible phones very soon.

Huawei EMUI June 2023 security update details are here and the company has numerous bugs and security flaws in the latest firmware. These security patches are crucial to Huawei smartphones and improve the phone’s capability to fight against vulnerabilities.

In June 2023 EMUI security bulletin, Huawei announced fixes for 9 critical, and 1 medium-level of vulnerability exposures. The bulletin also addresses over 14 vulnerabilities from the past month’s security rollouts.

These issues are fixed in EMUI 13.0.0, EMUI 12.0.1, EMUI 12.0.0, and EMUI 11.0.1. For your information, EMUI 13.1 is also a part of this new rollout procedure. Below you can check all of the CVEs (common vulnerabilities and exposures) mentioned in the June 2023 EMUI security bulletin along with their impact levels.

  • Critical: None
  • High: CVE-2023-21109, CVE-2023-20914, CVE-2023-21103, CVE-2023-21111, CVE-2023-21118, CVE-2023-21665, CVE-2023-21666, CVE-2022-46891, CVE-2021-0877

Huawei EMUI June 2023

EMUI

As for now, Huawei has not released a new June 2023 update for any of its devices. However, the company keeps on sending May 2023 security patches for eligible phones. This is a crucial update for all of the Huawei smartphones.

Sometimes, users are also expected to get fresh system optimizations alongside a new security patch. However, all of the rollouts are suggested to install as soon as it appears.

Over the past month, Huawei made discussions due to the release of the EMUI 13 roadmap. The company also disappointed some users due to the slim size of the EMUI 13 upgrade plan. It only consists of 11 devices but we believe that this is a temporary announcement.

Therefore, a wide release and announcement may come later on. Still, Huawei chose to upgrade, Huawei Mate Xs 2, P50 Pocket, and P50 Pro in the first slot by this month and the entire roadmap will conclude by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, the latest Huawei EMUI June 2023 security patch will release for various smartphones and we suggest you keep an eye on the firmware section.
