WhatsApp is introducing a new “grey ring” to simplify the visibility of the status updates from the chats section. It will enable users to identify which status updates they have already seen and which are left. This can be done without changing tabs.

Spotted in the WhatsApp Android beta 2.24.22.2 version, the company is rolling out a new grey ring for status updates. The latest build is available to some beta testers via the Google Play Beta Program and will soon reach more app users.

Earlier, the company brought a green ring around a contact’s profile to in the chats tab. This ring used to alert individuals regarding new status updates. Tapping on the circle immediately opens the status without going from one section to another.

However, this ring disappears once the user views the status. WhatsApp has improved this user interaction to a greater extent. As of now, users will see a grey ring after seeing the status. The color change indicates that you have seen the status.

Unlike the previous version, the grey ring will allow users to view the status again anytime, whenever they want. Thus, it’s now more convenient to re-check a status without moving to the Status section. Just tap on the grey ring, and it’s done!

The new feature is still in the beta stage. However, the company won’t take much time to introduce it to more users. Make sure to keep the app up-to-date for new enhancements.

exFAT

This HarmonyOS NEXT update has added support for exFAT file system format. This will enable the operating system to detect additional external storage devices.

Extensible File Allocation Table (exFAT) is a file system that is an upgraded version of FAT32. It enables the system to efficiently process large files and storage devices.

It was first introduced in 2006 by Microsoft to replace FAT32 on devices with flash memory such as USB and SD cards. FAT32 has a 4GB size limit but exFAT could handle much larger files.

Furthermore, exFAT is supported by various operating systems including Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. This allows the user to seamlessly share files between different devices.

Charging and other improvements

The new update boosts turbocharging mode to improve overall user experience. The firmware also improves the user interface and optimizes system stability for better performance.

There’s a fix for Celia keyboard which resolves some issues with character position. On the other hand, devices with facial recognition have been facing issues with random unlock errors, which is addressed with this software.

The contact app is getting a new fix for issues in deleting and merging similar contacts. Eventually, the update has optimized the system for a better user experience in some situations.

Beta

Released on October 8, the public beta campaign has gathered more than a million users. The current activity is limited to flagship devices and will expand to other models as the activity progresses.

The program has unlimited test slots and any users with eligible devices can opt for public beta, folowed by OTA release.

Samsung is seemingly adopting some incredible UI changes for One UI 7.0 including the widgets and icons. A few inputs have revealed that the firm is busy improving the user interface segments for its devices with the next One UI software upgrade.

X tipster @UniverseIce recently noticed the creativity level of One UI 7.0 in one of its early builds. He says that the software is still in development. But new testing builds hint at positive improvements regarding the User Interface and stability.

The tipster further reveals that One UI 7.0 will bring redesigned widgets and many icons. For instance, the Samsung Gallery app will get a new app icon again.

Not only applications but the upcoming software update may also change the in-content tool and feature icons of the Gallery app. Apart from the Samsung Gallery, users could discover more new innovative app icons with the One UI 7.0 beta.

Speaking of the widgets, the tipster mentioned that One UI 7 will likely bring some incomparably rich widgets. These might deliver smarter tools and capabilities over the rival operating systems. But the details aren’t clear for the time being.

A report by ETNews also claims that Samsung is working on the stability and completeness of the One UI 7.0 user interface. The company continues to perform new internal tests that can improve the new software’s UI to a greater extent.

Samsung is putting efforts to make its upcoming One UI upgrade the best for its device users. This is probably a reason why the company is taking time to roll out the first beta update. How far the tech giant will extend this wait would be worth seeing.

Huawei is issuing a new notice for its app developers that says the all-new HarmonyOS NEXT AppGallery will only support API 12 apps. App makers should upgrade to the new DevEco Studio NEXT release before the first week of next month.

The company is informing its app developers about the new HarmonyOS NEXT API 12 SDK. As per the official notice, Huawei will only support API 12-based apps on the HarmonyOS NEXT AppGallery, starting from November 10, 2024.

Other applications based on the beta API 12 or below builds won’t be listed on the AppGallery. Hence, developers should update their apps to the latest SDK version at the earliest. Or else, their applications may face restriction problems.

“Starting from November 10, 2024, Huawei AppGallery on HarmonyOS NEXT will only support API 12 apps that have integrated Release SDK and Beta apps of API 12 or below will be restricted. Please complete the version update as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation and support!.”

API (Application Programming Interface) and SDK (Software Development Kit) are significant tools for developers to build apps. In the latest API 12 release, Huawei made amendments that make apps more compatible with HarmonyOS NEXT.

HarmonyOS NEXT AppGallery API 12 apps

Inputs further reveal that Huawei has released the DevEco Studio NEXT 5.0.3.900 version. It is a dedicated development platform for apps and services. It offers multiple features and supports various programming languages, the multi-device preview of UI codes, and other significant tools for app making.

The company is now asking its developers to download the new DevEco Studio version for recompiling and updating their applications with the API 12 SDK.

Changes:

  • ohpm-repo adds the use_reverse_proxy field to configure whether to use the reverse proxy option.
  • The API capability level of this version is API 12 release

Doing so will make the native apps more compatible with HarmonyOS NEXT as well as enable users to easily manage them on their devices. It will also make them stable and more responsive towards new features and existing services.

Samsung phone users have locked their eyes on the One UI 7.0 arrival and in the meantime, the leaks are constantly implying better changes with the new upgrade. One effective enhancement in One UI 7.0 could be an all-new camera interface.

The South Korean tech giant is not only focusing on making its UI segment incredible but also easier to navigate. Despite an attractive interface, users often get stuck with the usage and navigation part of the One UI software updates.

But it seems the company is fixing this problem with the One UI 7.0. This could also be a reason why Samsung is taking time to release its new One UI beta update for developers and users. So without any delays, let’s take a look at new changes.

One UI 7.0 Camera Interface

The company is ready to give a bold revamp to the camera segment with the One UI 7.0 upgrade. The recent One UI 7.0 early build leaks suggest that the tech maker will adopt a more simple and easy-to-use camera interface with the new OS.

Looking into the details, shooting models like Photos, Videos, Portraits, and other labels now appear at the bottom of the screen. It is the perfect spot to switch between camera modes and other shooting tools without spending much time.

One UI 7 camera interface

One UI 7.0 to bring simpler and easier camera interface

Camera controls are now far better than the previous builds. One UI 7.0 has a new single tab as the replacement for Night Shot mode. The exact function of this button at the bottom of the camera interface is unclear. Though we may get details soon.

Other controls like Settings, Flash, Timer, Aspect Ratio, and Motion Photo can be found in the lower middle of the screen. These simple but significant changes will offer a clutter-free camera interface to users.

These changes even seem effective for those who prefer using the device in the one-handed mode. Such users can also opt for certain options from the top right corner of the camera layout. These changes could differ in the stable version. Hence, let’s wait more on this segment till the official rollout.

Huawei has shared the EMUI and HarmonyOS October 2024 security patch details and it’s time to check which devices will get the latest enhancements. Apart from patch details rollout, the company has also listed the devices on its official page.

Every month, the company updates its security patch details. Alongside, it adds or removes devices from the rollout list based on their compatibility. The current month is no exception to this theory and Huawei has shared the eligible models list.

The details describe two sections: monthly and quarterly. Huawei devices in the former section get the benefits of regular security rollouts while those in the quarterly part fetch new security improvements once in three months.

Note that Huawei has not yet started the October 2024 update distribution. Also, the company rolls these security firmware in batches. Hence, it takes some days to cover all the eligible units in a particular region. You can try out a manual installation.

To download the update manually, go to Settings > System & Updates > Software Updates. Now click on CHECK FOR UPDATES and let the device search for new versions. To the available one, hit the Download and Install tab. You can check the compatible Huawei devices for the EMUI October 2024 update below.
