Huawei is issuing a new notice for its app developers that says the all-new HarmonyOS NEXT AppGallery will only support API 12 apps. App makers should upgrade to the new DevEco Studio NEXT release before the first week of next month.

The company is informing its app developers about the new HarmonyOS NEXT API 12 SDK. As per the official notice, Huawei will only support API 12-based apps on the HarmonyOS NEXT AppGallery, starting from November 10, 2024.

Other applications based on the beta API 12 or below builds won’t be listed on the AppGallery. Hence, developers should update their apps to the latest SDK version at the earliest. Or else, their applications may face restriction problems.

“Starting from November 10, 2024, Huawei AppGallery on HarmonyOS NEXT will only support API 12 apps that have integrated Release SDK and Beta apps of API 12 or below will be restricted. Please complete the version update as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation and support!.”

API (Application Programming Interface) and SDK (Software Development Kit) are significant tools for developers to build apps. In the latest API 12 release, Huawei made amendments that make apps more compatible with HarmonyOS NEXT.

Inputs further reveal that Huawei has released the DevEco Studio NEXT 5.0.3.900 version. It is a dedicated development platform for apps and services. It offers multiple features and supports various programming languages, the multi-device preview of UI codes, and other significant tools for app making.

The company is now asking its developers to download the new DevEco Studio version for recompiling and updating their applications with the API 12 SDK.

Changes:

  • ohpm-repo adds the use_reverse_proxy field to configure whether to use the reverse proxy option.
  • The API capability level of this version is API 12 release

Doing so will make the native apps more compatible with HarmonyOS NEXT as well as enable users to easily manage them on their devices. It will also make them stable and more responsive towards new features and existing services.

Huawei is expected to upscale the Mate XT tri-fold phone shipment forecast and revise the initial plan from 500,000 to 1 million units.

The tech maker launched this device on September 10. As of today, it received more than 6.5 million reservations in the pre-order period. The first sale will begin sales on September 20 in China.

Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said it’s hard to tell whether Mate XT can keep up its sales momentum and future demand. There were instances when the demand for a Huawei flagship dropped rapidly after its release in the past.

Kuo said the foldable smartphone market could decline from 30 million to 15 million units this year. The decrease could be based on software experience, which is still immature for larger screens. Profit is another important aspect of foldable devices, which is demotivating brand vendors.

The analyst touched on the processor part of this tri-fold, saying that the company is lagging behind in competitive performance and it would also limit its ability to ship more devices to fulfill the demand.

Mate XT equips a 10-inch foldable display. It could be used as a fold or two phone like a smartphone or a tablet respectively.

The company has also added a couple of new camera features and optimized HarmonyOS software to adapt these screens. So far, customers are excited about this launch, which costs a lot.

However, tech enthusiasts are buying the device upfront without any second thoughts. As for now, Huawei has not revealed any official date for the Mate XT shipment.

China Mobile reportedly invests in the Honor Company. Both firms aim to expand the smartphone network services among customers. Perhaps the new alliance will result in more dynamic network capabilities for Honor device users in the native region.

Honor recently wrote an email to Bloomberg. The company described the latest investment made by China Mobile and how the cooperation will work in the future.

An Honor spokesperson revealed on Friday (August 23, 2024) that both companies will look after their responsibilities to promote digital services. This will ultimately offer a stable, better, and more efficient network experience for Chinese consumers.

“Both parties will give full play to their respective advantages and jointly provide consumers with a better and more innovative experience.”

The former Huawei subsidiary added more statements to China Mobile’s investment. It says that Honor has always worked on open and transparent development for its consumers. The company welcomes China Mobile in financial investment with good synergy in the innovation of the commercial and consumer device market.

China Mobile and Honor have not disclosed major details of this investment such as the amount of purchasing stakes and more. Though ‘China Mobile invests in Honor’ news will bring industrial and economic benefits for both companies.

Last year, Honor said that it was looking to improve its ownership structure. It started preparing for an IPO (initial public offering) after being separated from its parent firm Huawei. This initiative shows a step towards diversifying the company’s capital.

The next step in China Mobile and Honor cooperation would likely become official in the upcoming days. Stay tuned.
