From the name, the feature will efficiently transfer all the chat records of WeChat to the new software system, without losing any details or other data of the app. Ensure that you are using the WeChat HarmonyOS NEXT application version.

The feature seems quite effective. Often users concern about the device data and chats while upgrading their device to a new OS. Doing so leads to conversation loss and requires multiple processes to transfer the chat records locally.

As of now, the respective app adapted to the native HarmonyOS ecosystem with new features and smart services. Tencent has announced the WeChat HarmonyOS NEXT app testing for some users. It is also sending invitations that read:

“On October 8, the WeChat HarmonyOS native version officially started invitation-based internal testing. Users who have upgraded to the latest HarmonyOS NEXT software system will be the first to experience it (after receiving the invitation).”

Note that the company is sending the beta testing invitation to random users. It states that those who have not received the notification yet can wait patiently. They will soon be able to log in to the “early adopter version” of the app.

The invitation further reveals that the current beta app version offers some basic features to users. For instance, social networking, seamless audio, and video calls, Moments (a tool that allows sharing images, videos, and texts with friends), WeChat Pay QR code, and other payment-related functionalities.

Apart from the WeChat app, more than 20 Tencent apps adapted to the HarmonyOS native version. The list includes QQ, Tencent Meeting, Tencent Video, Tencent News, Tencent Sports, QQ Browser, Enterprise WeChat, QQ Music, and more.

These are and will be available for beta testing gradually. Meanwhile, users proceeding with the WeChat HarmonyOS NEXT beta testing should note some points.

Many netizens asked if the Huawei Watch Fit 3 will ever get the WeChat message reply feature. In response, the company said that the feature is in the adaptation process. Once completed, it will reach the device with the OTA upgrade.

Now the company has upgraded the Watch Fit 3 page’s FAQ section on the Huawei Mall. It reads that the wearable won’t support the WeChat reply feature. Users will receive notifications for new messages and can even view them on the watch.

“Hello, Huawei Watch Fit 3 does not support the WeChat watch version and cannot reply to WeChat messages. However, it supports WeChat message reminders and text content viewing, WeChat voice and video call reminders, and WeChat payment to meet the news of viewing important information and travel payment.”

Watch Fit 3 users have to settle with the available WeChat services on the device. The company might have found incompatibility issues with the reply feature due to which it had to pause the adaptation. Although we may find interesting enhancements to the device with the upcoming HarmonyOS updates.

Huawei has recently added three new color options to the Watch Fit 3 devices: Blue, Green, and Gold. While the first two cost 999 yuan, the last one is priced at 1399 yuan. These versions are open for sale with a limited discount of 50 yuan.

Bloomberg has added more insights to this matter saying that Huawei and Tencent inches closer to an agreement that will exclude WeChat from in-app purchases.

Under this agreement, the phone maker will not take any fees from the Chinese app developer to run its super chat application on HarmonyOS devices. The new decision is the result of months-long discussions between both parties.

Thus WeChat will become an exception in the Huawei AppGallery that will not be tied to any in-app transactions. In response to this benefit, Tencent will make WeChat more efficient for millions of Chinese users regarding payment/gaming via updates.

Note that the deal is yet to be signed by both companies. Once official, the agreement will open benefits for Tencent to obtain huge sales from the app’s mini-programs and other facilities. The firm has already made a profit of $207 billion last year with these programs and now planning to increase them in the coming days.

Important Deal for Huawei

This deal is equally important for Huawei as the upcoming HarmonyOS version might lose the app support if Tencent doesn’t upgrade it. In other words, the new agreement will also stamp confirmation on WeChat’s compatibility with HarmonyOS NEXT.

Apart from Tencent, the Chinese tech giant has offered the same deal to ByteDance’s Douyin but it seems that the latter is not much interested in this process.

Huawei is taking these steps to make HarmonyOS a far better platform than its rivals – iOS and Android. In terms of in-app purchases, Apple collects 30% for games, while Android has a fee of 50%. Although the Chinese tech maker aims for 20%.

“Huawei has a long-term cooperative relationship with WeChat and is actively negotiating with the team to adapt the WeChat watch version to Huawei Watch Fit 3. If the adaptation is completed, it will be upgraded through OTA to add the WeChat message reply feature to Watch Fit 3.” – wrote Huawei Mall.

It is uncertain if the reply to messages will let users opt for all the replying methods like voice reply, emoji reply, quick text reply, or will simply push the text reply feature. However, things will get clear with the upcoming Watch Fit 3 update.

To enable the WeChat reminders setting on your Watch Fit 3, visit the Huawei Health application on your smartphone. Open the app and go to the device details page. Select the ‘Message Notification’ option and turn on the toggle of the Notifications for WeChat.
